Band Camp Information

Band Camp is an exciting and exhausting week.  You will be physically tired and mentally drained at times.  That’s normal (for the staff too!).  Expect to have moments of fatigue and frustration.  It’s okay.  If it were easy, there would be nothing to work towards.

YOU WILL NEED TO BRING:

  • Your instrument/equipment in working condition w/ all necessary accessories

    • Reeds/Ligatures

    • Neckstraps

    • Valve Oil

    • Other items your instrument may require

  • Dinner everyday (including beverage).  Bring in a cooler or have your parents drop it off.

    • STUDENTS MAY NOT LEAVE CAMPUS FOR DINNER

  • Hat that will cover your head from the sun and sunglasses to protect your sight

  • Half gallon or gallon insulated water jug w/ cold water – no sharing

    •  Label w/ your name to avoid losing

  • Sunscreen, spf 30 or better and protective lip balm - apply regularly

  • Insect repellent for evenings

  • Shirt that covers your shoulders (All attire must be school appropriate) – Dry wicking shirts are best

  • Athletic shorts – the lighter the better

  • Socks and solid tie shoes, firmly tied onto your feet. The shoes students should be wearing are a brand of running shoes that have cushioning and tread support.  No sandals or slip-on’s.

  • Day bag w/ change of clothes in case we get wet (extra shoes would be good too)

  • Long sleeves and long pants in case of cool evenings.  It will be chilly due to A/C in the school.

  • BEACH TOWEL - This will be for stretching and choreography purposes. It’s this or sitting on hot pavement or a gym floor.

  • Pencil w/ eraser, everyday (one will be provided to you)

  • 1-inch binder and sheet protectors for music - at least 10 protectors

RECOMMENDED:

Fanny Pack or Utility Pouch

Cooling towel to cover neck on breaks

On Friday of band camp, 9th Grade Orientations will be happening. You will have plenty of time to get to band, but please eat lunch and have what you need if you are staying around after orientation.

STUDENT HEALTH: With long and potentially hot days ahead, it is important that students take care of themselves with parent encouragement. Stay hydrated, eat nutritious meals, use sunscreen and sun protection, etc. If students aren’t feeling well, they need to notify a staff member. If parents are called for a student to go home, they need to be checked out of rehearsal from a band director.

ABSENCES:

Students are expected to be at all rehearsals. If a student is missing a full band rehearsal or performance for an excused absence, parents/guardians should complete the Absence Report Form at this link. https://forms.gle/jdDSbg3KAh65RQWt6

Again, this must be completed by a parent or guardian! Please know, if a student is missing rehearsals, they will likely need to spend extra time catching up on material.

SNACK/DESSERT POTLUCK FOR BAND CAMP

During band camp, students have an afternoon snack break and a dinner break.  Donations of snacks and desserts help keep the students fueled up.

Please see the snack/dessert schedule below. Two important notes: This is only meant to be a supplement to the dinner they bring in, not a substitute for their meal. And please, absolutely no peanut/tree nut products of any kind. Variety packs of snacks often have at least one item that contains a nut product and we cannot serve those items.

Snack/Dessert schedule-Each class will take a day to bring in donations.

Monday 8/4 Freshmen-Snack, Seniors-Dessert

Tuesday 8/5 Leftovers

Wednesday 8/6 Juniors-Snack, Sophomores-Dessert

Thursday 8/7 Leftovers

Friday 8/8 Leftovers

The students can drop off the snack/dessert donation in the cafeteria when they arrive before camp. On drop off days, volunteers will be available to refrigerate items as needed

Snack Ideas: Any kind of fruit. Watermelon cut into wedges is especially popular.  With the heat, frozen grapes and berries are a welcome treat. Veggies- carrots, cherry tomatoes, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. portioned out in snack size plastic bags or plastic cups are great.  Wrapped snacks: bags of chips, pretzels, muffins, cheez-its, trail mix, jerky/meat sticks, cheese sticks, frozen GoGurts.  Dessert ideas: cookies of all kinds, brownies, cupcakes, ice freeze pops, etc.  ITEMS MUST NOT CONTAIN NUTS. We do allow home baked goods, but please provide a list of ingredients to avoid any possible allergy issues.

In order to speed up the line and get students through quickly, we ask that all items be "grab and go"--either pre-packaged or individually wrapped.

Parent Volunteers Needed for Band Camp!

We would love your help during band camp and our extended Saturday rehearsals! Whether you can help with meals or monitor students, any time you can share makes a huge difference and is greatly appreciated.

New Volunteer Opportunities This Year:

Along with filling water bottles at football games and Saturday rehearsals, we are introducing a new indoor volunteer role. We need parents to stay inside and be available if students need to cool down and take a break from the heat. Shifts are scheduled in 4-hour blocks during band camp and Saturday practices.
